So the first book was a murder mystery during Attack on Titan with the kaiju from Pacific Rim, now this book is a murder mystery featuring Annihilation and a smidge of Dune. RJB's cornering the market on inspired world-building during murder mysteries.

Would be finishing this book right bloody now if I hadn't bought tickets to see Project Hail Mary tonight

I have questions

This book had the temerity to climax half way through. Tomorrow's going to be a several coffee refill day.

I am firmly of the opinion that more fantasy series need giant walls built to keep out otherworldly horrors

This is a "keep a tissue box handy" sort of book.

I really appreciate how this world-building has every culture thinking just about every other culture is the barbarian culture. We love some real-world inspiration.
