Book jumps right in to the story — Also wastes no time in providing lots of wonderful descriptions of food!

This one was on my Christmas wishlist! (Special thanks to the gift-giver that got it for me! 😉) So excited for this new #rumread!

This book has such wonderfully clear and conscious sentences that are packed with gems of wisdom… and I’m only a short 33x pages into the book!

Wonderfully written! Clear, to the point, and highlighting the most relevant details.

Author has some good points, but also makes some unsubstantiated claims and even makes a couple contradictory remarks in the chapters I have read thus far…

So far the author has made a few incorrect assertions regarding evolutionary theory, but his writing style is engaging…

The 6th to last paragraph of chapter 43 basically summarizes the situation for the past 386 pages… 😅

I enjoyed reading the “Harrow Makes Soup” scene. It reminded me somewhat of the dinner scene from Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus.

This book was perhaps written for a younger audience. The book is a quick read.

An interesting concept in this book: traveling deep space quickly via ghost-river! Definitely a cool scene to read. Sort of reminded me of the Willy Wonka boat ride from the first film adaptation if modified to necromantic deep space ghost travel…

In my printing of this book, I think there is a missing quotation mark on page 43 at the end of the one word sentence that reads: “Three.

Good history of rum production in French and Spanish Caribbean colonies in these chapters towards the end. Moving into the history of Bacardi’s business.

Character deaths just before Act Three did genuinely surprise me!

Pretty enjoyable read so far. Feels a bit like a combination of “A Christmas Carol” and some other story I can’t remember the name of that I once read about a famous comedian. Curious to see where the story goes!!!
