Added this to the "currently reading" state, but after listening to the first chapter on audiobook, I'm going to have to reread or somehow cliffnotes the first book to remember everything,

Ugh. 4h left of audiobook, kind of having to "power through" the inanity. Plot went rogue at about 50% through, and we now get to deal with time/space problems and worry about temporal paradoxes. Quite a divergence from the earlier books.

It will take me a while to finish this, but I want to mention that the audiobook version of this is so compelling/delightful. I'm not sure what I'm learning here, but I'm loving the time spent.

Prequel (kinda) to "The Blacktongue Thief" which I love. This is set in a war setting, and I'm nervous about it being too gory or violent for me. TBT was very dark, but it made up for it with brilliant humor from the protagonist. This has a serious no-humor protagonist. We shall see.

Oh my God the prose is so good.

This is a book on moral philosophy dressed up in some science fiction. I'm not sure yet whether the whole detracts from the parts.

Oh THIS is a lark. So far, easy recommend for SF folks who like caper stories.

Had to pull Olympian Affair off the list. I read a chapter and decided I couldn't read without a reread of Windlass. Which, I mean, that's just going to happen in N years with the next book, so probably I'll skip all of that and wait until the series is out.

This is book 2, but it feels like there is content I missed between the end of the last book and the start of this. Feels a bit deus ex.

I'm not sure I can continue this. The last series of historical prequels bothered me a little bit, and this first book is bothering me a lot, despite how much I like the main character. Almost no way I finish this series- not sure if I can bring myself to work through the last 20% of the book.

I don't love it.

I love this story so far, and I love the untrustworthy narrator.

Kinda stuck on "A Game Of You" which is darker in this dramatization than I remember it being as I read it.

Everyone interested in American race struggles should read this book. Very powerful.

Not enough update characters allowed to do this right, but: "Hey future self, when you are reviewing this and giving it a 5, remember the holes in the setting, and how binding plot to town, and only hinting at broader national contexts for "alternative history" feels like a missed opportunity."

I'm consuming the audible book, and the narration leaves something to be desired. But I don't love the plot, and I don't necessarily love the interactions. The characters are suitably interesting, and the interactions are OK. Anyways, it's reasonably entertaining, but the audible delivery....

Not really plot driven at 40% through, but lots of interesting ideas. I don't find the dystopia convincing because I feel like it ignores a half of humanities base response to adversity, but as a machine that explores an idea, I find it somewhat compelling. Goes very dark very often, for reasons I can't quite fathom, and which don't resonate (due to human fundamental laziness) but v0v, still good.

This book is a goddamn slog for me. I'm going to have to push myself through it, just so I can try new things.

Holy hell this book is amazing.

Baldwin power but less misogyny.

Having read the forward to this book, I'm deciding to put it back on the "Want To Read" shelf, until such time as things are great and happy and a little depression would be nice.

Little past halfway done, and while I generally am enjoying the story, setting, etc, it's feeling a little long. We'll see.
