So far The Giver is a very interesting book. The society is very interesting and makes you question a lot about the society we are living in now. For example the strict rules and the way people are forced to be open. At first it didn't seem so different but now I am starting to notice things like the medicine and that they are minimizing the differences that makes me question the intent of society's strict behavior.

Esperanza Rising was an amazing book for students! The way it really life from a point of view of an immigrant was really interesting and thought provoking. It was really interesting how the incorporated some Spanish words in the content. I would love to see how ELL students from Mexico or Spain would respond to this book. Hopefully the book would inspire them to grow in their learning and break down walls.

This book is really interesting because it shows the drastic difference in the way Esperanza's character changes. She is forced to change her identity and she is now trying to figure out who she is.

Jen Roark is finished with The Very Quiet Cricket
The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle is a cute story about a cricket who could not find his voice. He searched and searched, trying to talk to other animals but he could not communicate with them. However, in the end he found someone who he could finally talk to. This is a good book to read to kids because it shows them that they may not be able to work with everyone but the people they can talk to makes it worth it.

Jen Roark is finished with The Grouchy Ladybug
The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle is a really good book for so many reasons. First, the illustrations are really awesome. Second the way the pages are laid out is helpful for kids to understand the concept of time. This is because the pages start off skinny and it slowly gets wider and wider as more time goes by. This is a good teaching tools for children.
