So far this is my favourite of the series. Still the same issues with verb tenses (an editor REALLY should have caught this), but pacing, setting, and characters are all excellent. Such a fun read. I slightly regret not waiting for a snowstorm to read this, but I can always reread it in January.

“His whole body singed with terror.” Really?
Sang. The English past tense of “sing” is “sang.”
I love the story, the atmosphere, the characters, and the pacing, but this book needed one last read-through by a skilled editor.

“Assumingly” is not actually a word. Presumably. You mean presumably.

This is still a fantastically enjoyable book, though. A perfect slasher-y summer read.

Okay, this is less immaculately edited than I’d initially thought. Specifically there’s an annoying tendency to link sentences with commas to create one run-on sentence; I’m trying to convince myself it’s a reflection of the viewpoint character’s inner voice. It’s still well written overall, though, and I’m really enjoying it.

I’ve barely started this, but I’m in far enough to 1) love the atmosphere and 2) appreciate the smooth, confident, well-edited writing. Excellent so far.

This is a delicious slow burn of summer creepiness. The atmosphere is getting steadily scarier, like wading into cold water. I love it.

This was a fun read for about the first three-quarters, and then less so, because the heroine does a bunch of dumb things.

…”concentrating instead on the excitement of being in the middle of a real English murder mystery—just like in an Agatha Christie book.” Okay, book: I’m willing to believe in the werewolf but you are never going to convince me that Jessica has read Agatha Christie novels and found them exciting.

“Now, pleasant, if a little vapid, pretty Joy had been murdered in the same way.” OMG. I have been murdered by this sentence. What the ever loving hell, Elizabeth, makes your interior monologue this profoundly awful? WE DON’T NEED TO KNOW THAT THE DEAD GIRL WAS “VAPID,” you raging bitch. 😂😂😂😂

Well, now I have a better grasp of why the Romans thought it worthwhile to spend three days a year placating family ghosts, so there’s that.
Aside from being a ghost story (and it is a VERY traditional ghost story), this was an unexpected painful reminder of what it’s like to lose a parent and have to deal with all their stuff (not just physical stuff, all of it).

Why do I do these things to myself? Why do I keep convincing myself Fear Street is a reasonable use of my time?

So far this is “Coastal Grandma but ominous.” I’m enjoying it.

I'm amazed and depressed by the negative reviews on here. Depiction doesn't equal endorsement: showing the sexist, racist, clueless underbelly of a high school doesn't mean the author thinks those are good things.

"They were both approaching fifty and had spent a lot of money trying to back away again." Ha.

This book is breaking my heart. It's so, so good.
