Riordan's command over telling an old story in an entertaining and modern way is great. He found a formula that works and is appealing and knocked it out of the park. I've rear Chokshi, who emulates this style well. Now I'm curious to try other authors he's mentored.

I don't like this narrative style (writing wise) so it's making the read harder. The audiobook narrator is mispronouncing Albany, so that's pissing me off. It's written very sepia-toned private dick, but set in 2008, so it's extra annoying. I also don't think Mosley bothered visiting Albany so his descriptions are off. I'd never pick up another book by him. 2 for 2 not great reads in Mystery Book Club this year.

There are different kinds of biases and today was a reminder that overconfidence bias can lull us into a sense of security that is false.

Ashok has checked out of this marriage. And he is not excused, because it doesn't sound like he did much to meet Abha where she was, or help her out, or have a conversation. So his disappointment over under expectations that were never voiced appropriately are null and void.

This story reads so "INDIAN"... The dialogue is a bit stilted and over the top, the whole thing is heavy handed. Maybe one of her FIRST first pieces...?
