Autistic MC without it being called autism... in 2022? Slightly strange. I'm still waiting to see what made this book so popular.

I keep thinking back to the movie and the did such a good job with the adaptation based on what I've read so far.

I'm definitely just hate reading this. I keep hoping he'll drop at least one little nugget of "oh that's a new way to think about something" or "oh that's a different way to do a thing", but it's been a whole lotta nothing!

He's also self-applauding and the words he chose imply he doesn't think the reader has been capable of his approach.

Author's tone is so smug and condescending. Makes me want to not listen to him. He also just talks around a lot of the points without specificity, clarity, and useful information.

So far, looks like the movie adaptation was done well

Today's food for thought: question assumptions. This one would take more conscientious & practice, since humans are so prone to acting on the assumption without thought.

Today's section was the professional version of think before you speak. The timing is so exact, given my friendship situation with the DGs. All the things I'm reading, listening to, etc. point to me being "correct" and them being more "in the wrong". Not the point of the exchange, but it's highlighting that this equation no longer really serves me and I need to be ok to let it go.

Accidentally read Day 1 AND 2 in one go. These are truly micro sections that force deep thinking and introspection. I like!

I like the idea that this book opens with the "permission" that it's meant to be read at a slow pace and be a mindful, daily practice. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. Here's hoping it's not another mindless, throwaway, self-published book.

I thought the book was nearing its natural end, but there's still a quarter to go!

I'm "hate reading" this through, purely out of a wish to make sure I do some academic reading throughout the year as well.

All these men who disrupted entire countries, cultures, and politics just sound like squabbling, tantrum-throwing toddlers. Why were people taking such whiny little shits so seriously!?
(Yes, I recognize the pattern of history repeating itself)

How do men like Sun and Charlie get a following and power? They are right shits!

Mmm...super messy and overdramatic. But nowhere near my lived experience, so maybe it's normal? If it is, yikes! Therapy is a beautiful thing!

The writing is really stilted, as if the original language was not English and this is a translation. The conversational language for the teenagers is far more formal than typical, especially for Gen Z. A lot of cliches or over the top-ness in a really artificial way. Not inclined to read the rest of the series.

Oh this is an interesting story. And it's well written. AND it's set in upstate(ish) NY.

So incredibly messy. So bizarrely different... Adult... Because Blume has always equally kid lit

I'm not enjoying this as much as the other two books.

He comes across really insufferable!

I can't decide whose side I'm on. Feeney does a great job of building sympathy and doubt for both main characters.

This teenage bit, with all the people and all the partying, etc... a bit cliched and angsty. It doesn't hold my attention as much.

Dear lord this is a looong book! We've only made it to middle/high school, so it makes sense if we get to see Demon's life through adulthood. It's giving Educated vibes. The exposition keeps you hooked.

There's a lot of stories going on here, and it's a bit hard to keep track of how they work with know another. Partially my fault for being distracted while listening. Partially speaks to the writing... Very tell, tell, tell. Keeps from engaging the reader.

Men who think they can write from the woman's perspective when writing rape scenes ... a special kind of wtf

Sometimes people get away with being different and "avante garde" and then it becomes their whole personality. This book reads like that.

I really need to start reading the book description before diving into some of these books
