i heard about this book before it came out and thought the description sounded like it was engineered in a lab that had datamined my brain for things i love in a narrative so naturally i drew the conclusion that it was actually too good to be true and there was no way that it would actually be good or i would actually like it. pleased to announce my conclusion was incredibly wrong!

it’s really fun and cool that the more i read and watch about histories of representation in media the more i realize that attitudes towards it have not fundamentally changed in any meaningful way in decades and that we are never going to get past the “demanding ‘good’ representation while condemning anything that’s darker/more challenging/etc” thing (i hate it here)

ohh i love this already… the voice the subject matter her perspectives on format and technology and archive… all of it
