Oh god, this book is an exposition and explanatory SLOG. The characters have to spend at least three sentences describing every little environment, activity, character. I usually enjoy a spooky ambience but it is killing the momentum of this story.

HELP

This was really doing something for me for a minute…but unfortunately six realms may be too many for me to keep up with. My brain feels confused.

Alright…the love interests are starting to feel repetitive. If I have to read one more sentence about “claiming my woman”, “sensing a true mate/partner”…etc I’m shutting it down.

The Grim Reaper just said poo-poo.

Alright okay scripts are being flipped.

Hmmmmm…I’m enjoying myself but once again we’re doing the “both the characters are super into each other but they think the other one just wants to be casual” trope and it’s getting tired, esp bc the first book in this series did the same thing…

This is gonna be a dnf. I was promised Labyrinth meets folk horror but there’s not an ounce of whimsy or fun in this. I get the main character is supposed to be existentially depressed and riddled with guilt, but as someone who deeply loves the Southern gothic and macabre, her character is so boring and tiresome!

This book reads like it was written by a 16 year old but I’m already halfway through so I feel committed to finishing. One of the most annoying and useless protagonists I’ve read thus far.
