100 pages in and none of the characters really are unique and the main one is annoying. I was hoping for a fun series read but I don’t think I can do it.

Just not that well written. I was hoping pushing through would be rewarding, since it’s part of a series, I’ll skim to get a few answers but I’m 150 pages in and just don’t feel connected to anyone.

Already light years better than the other book I’ve been forcing myself to read

Woof the writing is really not very good. All the characters are written the same. An editor would have caught a couple of really egregious errors in the text. And she belabored the points. Interesting idea kept me pushing through.

This is really not very good. The plot is too large scale and the clues and hints and leaps are not believable. I wish she’d stayed smaller and focused on the village and the characters we’ve come to enjoy.

DNF. There’s a story there but it’s too painful & slow to get through the lack of communication between the two main characters.

DNF. Too much self-loathing by a (side?) character.

It’s good but not gripping so far. I’ve been distracted by life though.

She’s done better - could have been shorter, the layout of the online conversations was fairly annoying - but we did see more character growth.

DNF. Pretty clear where it was going so I skipped to the end to confirm.

Really good. My first Scalzi.

Totally delightful. I love looking up some of the turns and pubs and churches he mentions. They’re still there 120+ years later.

DNF - skipped to the end but didn’t want to read it all. Too stressful reading about bad neighbors.

Oh MAN this is a fun read. I could almost do it in one sitting!
