Honestly and ironically, I felt this story erased asexuality a bit. When they brought up demisexuality, it was very respectful, but in practice it was used as a plot point to overcome in order for them to be together. It was presented as the only option in a way that read “oh you haven’t formed the right bond yet.” Which reads like so many of the invalidating phrases leveled at people on the asexual spectrum.

Why do so many damnei feature rape so prominently? I could have at least used a trigger warning at the beginning of this book. Even better - at the beginning of this series. I got invested with the first book, and read 77% of the second book waiting to see how both characters overcame their homophobia- it’s with aphrodisiacs and rape. I’m so devastated. Should I assume all damnai have bdsm without consent?

Essentially, gay love saves the day. I love it. Other than that, eh. I did appreciate the analogy for modern day homophobia and how it is treated and how in this story this treatment ends up very detrimental to society
