The narrator (I'm listening to this primarily on audio) is from Belfast and I do appreciate that the accent it's being read in is the same that many of the people being discussed would have as well.

Preface already out of date. Canadians and Cubans do not have in common the desire to not just be a satellite of major powers. Cuba certainly maintains that but the Carney government is absolutely game to be Imperialist running dogs. So maybe Canadians don't want to believe it but that spirit has faded.

Started on my way home. Will inevitably finish the audiobook to close off the Bane trilogy. Can't say it's wowing me but had I read them in the late 2000s i might feel differently. Solid though.

The chosen audiobook for my trip to and from KW. Just a little over halfway as of last night.

Just like in the rest of the economy/the world. The privatization and neoliberalisation of football clubs is cementing the doom of many a historic club. Unsurprisingly the ones that survive their own financial ruin are ones where the supports secure collective ownership of the club. God I wish my local was fan owned.

Slow going but it's because I don't want to miss anything. It's simply too good to zoom through.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more English name than John Blackthorne.

Coincidentally John Blackthorne could easily be the name of a Hedge Knight in ASOIAF

Got 300 pages in last time. This time I restart this journey and I will finish. Goodreads tracker says I'm 5 books ahead of schedule. Let's see if Shogun kills that lead but it'll be so worth it for this epic.

We might headed towards three 5 star books in a row of this one keeps up the way it is. There are some things that don't fit anymore (Luke saying 16 is too young to start learning the ways of the force) and maybe not all of the banter feels spot on for Han and Leia but overall this is classic legends and I am enjoying the OG version of the nightsisters.

Brayden Raymond is 65% done with The Red Flag: A History of Communism
Roughly 2 thirds of the way through. Heading towards a probable 2 stars. Some of the historical discussion is worth reading, but then the author sprinkles in random overt opinions without backing it up, or glosses over successes to focus on issues or failures. I also get the impression the author may have read but not engaged deeply with theory (or read someone else's understanding).

We are into the Stalin era now - mostly - still bouncing around a bit. I think a better name for the book ought to be 'Scientists of the early Soviet period' or something since it's less about the actual science and more about the lives of the scientists with (in my opinion) not enough focus on their work and the outcomes of their work.

100 pages in and Stalin has been vaguely mentioned only. Covering in various detail the lives of several academics and other elites/intelligentsia leading up to and shortly after the October Revolution. There is certainly little to no sympathy to be found for the Bolsheviks and Lenin thus far as the author does his best to shill for elites, which thus far has bored and angered me.
