Picked this back up (library loan expired) and immediately was immersed back into the story and didn’t have any problems remembering earlier events.

Just got my eARC from NetGalley!

I liked the first story. Each subsequent story is the same character in a lot of ways and I just hate her more and more with each one. It feels like it was written by a person who hates themself and their life and their boyfriend and the sex they’re having and can’t manage to blot that out with some weird speculative elements.

Out There (story) - 5 stars

Wow that just punched me right in the gut. Looking back you can see how the whole story was leading to the ending. Also, straight women need to unionize and demand better conditions, ESPECIALLY in the future.

This book is incredibly uncomfortable in the suspension of disbelief that a well educated scientist (even if autistic as my head canon suggests) would accept all the red flags of the love interest, who despite having a cell phone doesn’t know a single thing about pretending to be human after millennia. Either she’s a monster or not, this book can’t decide.

Wait now suddenly everyone else, including those who clearly weren’t devout, are acting like Deka was 3% ago just so she can have her revelation and throw off all vestiges of her faith. She does a complete 180 in 2 seconds. What??

I’m extremely frustrated by the fact that Deka clings so thoroughly to an oppressive religion that told her she was worthless and unworthy, on whose orders people tortured and literally killed her repeatedly. Maybe it’s just my perspective as someone who was not raised religious and has never experienced that kind of indoctrination, but it is not believable to me.

I have no idea what is going on. My current guess is the second person narrative is the linear (ish) progression from the first book and the third person narrative is an alternate past if Harrow had not chosen Gideon as her cavalier which she somehow has made truth through her own death and resurrection? Also I don’t like Harrow as much as Gideon.

I really liked the beginning with the work put into school and learning, it felt really realistic. So far the second section with the war isn’t as enjoyable.

Am I losing my mind or are all these characters bullies?

Very confusing start, may not continue.

This hits too close to reality. I like it but I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it.
