I could have mentioned this earlier, but I like the use of having people’s facial expressions detailed from Thrawn’s perspective. It helps visualize everything. It feels like a play script.

Yeah okay this book is enjoyable. Just because of how damn competent this guy is (as I already knew). It’s just fun reading about someone who knows how to handle situations to everyone’s benefit.

I cannot believe I’m reading about Gov. Pryce’s background. I’m sure it will be interesting but also what have I become as a person to be reading about this lolllll

Mouse droids really are called mouse droids? That’s their proper name? That’s so great. And definitely not the point of this book anywayyy

I’m going at this not knowing if I’ll enjoy it or find it boring. I’m compelled so far. And I was not expecting the Skywalker namedrop. He knows him???

That was great!!!!!! And immediately after this ending, Kanan takes three steps onto the ship and is immediately electrocuted by Chopper. You know that’s what happens.

“The Emperor had disenfranchised souls across the galaxy, people from all walks of life. A reluctant near-Jedi was just one more of their countless number. Many people would be required for a rebellion to work, all contributing their unique talents. All would be equally important, in their own ways.”

I just think Kanan finally revealing that he’s a Jedi by using the Force to grab the catwalk before it crushed Hera was nice. I just think that was a nice thing to happen in this story. Also very memorable as that’s one of the only things I could recall from this book.

Having the main antagonist be someone who was working for himself against the Emperor even while pledging loyalty to him was such an interesting decision. Because isn’t that just like the Empire? Everyone out for themselves, willing to lie and backstab and cheat? The fact that an Imperial officer ends up helping them because of Vidian’s corruption is so ironic.

“‘I saw Jedi in action, you know, long before you were born. If innocent lives were threatened, they would figure out what to do. Even in a no-win situation.’”

“A waste of time. Except for one thing: All that thinking and hiding in those early days had trained him to analyze situations quickly and thoroughly. The tactical smarts Hera seemed to like had sprung from there. In that case, he thought, there was one good thing that had come of it. Because looking at her in the pilot’s chair now, he determined that he’d follow her anywhere.”

What a good Jedi he is!!! This is why he surrendered the Hera rescue plan to Ezra in Jedi Night, as well…sighhh. Also, I love how he immediately acknowledges that she’s better than him and wants her to drive to HELP HIS FRIENDS (says the guy who has no friends so he avoids detection) (something something Jedi cannot help themselves, it’s like an itch.)

“Kanan, of course, knew all about being cut adrift with no guidance as to what to do next. He’d figured out the secret: never again identifying with anything or anyone so much that losing it left him with no other option. But not everyone was as smart as he was.”

“‘Yep, it’s the whole lunatic family out for a crawl,’ Kanan said. ‘Mom, dad, grandma, and the weird uncle we keep in the basement.’” *points* look it’s the mom and dad gag!!

THEY’RE going to BLOW UP the MOON ‼️‼️‼️

This was a good conversation. For an effort against the Empire to have any substance, there has to be a unified assault. That’s why it was important that Hera was getting missions from Fulcrum in s1, even before they formally joined the Rebel fleet.

The way he treats Skelly though, it’s just like how he treated Rex to begin with in Rebels. His character is consistent even if he did change for the better in a lot of ways.

This entire time Kanan’s like “maybe if I help her with her anti-empire rebellious reconnaissance mission she’ll go on a date with me” and I mean come on he’s so real for that.

I like how everything in the plot works together. Kanan defended Okadiah against Vidian and unknowingly gained Zaluna’s trust. So now she’s recruiting him for help here, which causes him to fall in with Hera again. One good thing leads to another, even for a guy doing all he can to NOT do good things to avoid detection. Something something it’s like an itch…a lot of that in this book methinks.

Zaluna is a legend and I love her.

Also I do NOT remember the town on this planet being located on the permanently dark side, so there’s never day. That’s so sick.

It’s been said plenty before but the emphasis on Hera’s voice knowing Kanan loses his sight really is just. Ugh. Gah. You know.

“Kanan, who had had no mission in life, now found himself with one: seeing who it was that could be attached to a voice like that.” Hehehe

Kanan’s relationship with the Force as a story about someone falling away from their faith (and then returning) is something that can be so compelling.

The first time he taps into the Force in a decade is to outrun an explosion *smoking meme*

“Maybe next lifetime, pal” hehehehehehe

Skelly has extreme Sejanus Plinth vibes to me. Skelly’s background is vastly different from Sejanus’s, of course, but he still reminds me of him.

The big corporations had staged the whole thing…Wars sold more ships, more weapons, and more medical devices. And in the CW, even the soldiers on both sides were manufactured goods.”
