I feel like I should clarify that I’m really liking it, the world is really interesting, and I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that I don’t know what’s going on. More so that I’m still waiting for pieces to click into place (unlike other books which have this happen sooner) and I’m hoping my faith in Jemisin is well worth it

I really wished I didn’t pause on this book when I had the momentum. I’m like half way with this book and still have way more questions than answers. Still feeling like I don’t know what’s going on or where we are going besides Essun is still looking for her daughter but we’ve known that for 200 pages. What else do I know about this world? Nothing

Some crazy stuff is happening but it still feels slow to grasp my attention but I’m powering through. Gonna watch some lectures etc about what’s going on so far so I can make sure I’m making sense of where the story is going. I’m hoping there will be a little more plot and the characters could shut up a little. They just talk and talk and talk

I read a little bit of this section without audiobook and I read so much faster that way lol but the audio is so good. There’s so much emotion there that hearing it is helpful in picturing the scene. Especially when the whole book is different people talking about different things

So far so good. Only a few sections of pages have been confusing (the pages about the backstory of the Elders, and the conversation about Ivan’s paper and the separation vs combination of Church and State and all that. I think I might be missing some knowledge on the popular beliefs at the time. Stupid history lol. Narration by Benedict Bridgerton is 10/10

This book just got intense

Interesting very intriguing all around. I’m still learning the world and the role everything has to play in it

Ok I’ve gotten a physical copy and reread the first two chapters to annotate them. I’m sat for this series

I’m liking it but confused but I have faith things will make sense. I think I wanna go by a physical so I can annotate because I’m not following the lingo yet

Good so far, short and choppy writing style that keeps things moving with the short chapters

Crazy twist I was not expecting that wtf does this mean. What did Sevro know this whole time? How has this been working logistically? Why didn’t he tell Darrow sooner? I feel like that would have been helpful to know

I love these characters and the found family vibe

This book is getting funnier between all the characters and I’m here for it

I feel the need to start highlight quotes and sharing thoughts in the margins but I’m reading a library copy 😭 I think I need to own these books!

Also just found out the third book in this series is called Finale. Like you gotta be kidding me that’s the most unoriginal name for a final book ever

I just googled and apparently the guy everyone is obsessed with in Once Upon a Broken Heart isn’t even in the first book-so what am I reading this for 😭. That would mean I’d have to continue to books 2 and 3 to be introduced to this guy. Reddit has mixed reviews on Book 2 and Book 3. Idek what to do, do I scrap it and just jump right into reading OUABH?
