I think this scene with Darrow and Sevro might be my favorite in the whole series. Also, I know I’m not a terrorist warlord trying to lead a mass uprising of the low class to breakdown the social hierarchy of the solar system but I really relate to this line: “I think the shittiest part about getting older is now we’re smart enough to see the cracks in everything.” “We’re 23, dipshit”

Sevro is the most loyal bestie. My heart aches in pain at the thought of him being the only one to have faith that Darrow was alive. The way that he just needed everyone in the world to know who his best friend truly was 😭

(Be prepared for every update to be about how much I love Sevro. I haven’t this feral for a character like this is so long)

This is not what I was expecting so far. I keep having to reread sentences because I’m not understanding which I is not normal for me. I think the reading level is higher than most things I read. Maybe I just should read this right before bed

The most unrealistic part about this book by far is $20 all you can eat sushi IN BOSTON. Show me where! Nowhere.

It’s cute but predictable and there were way too many scenes back-to-back that forced them to touch each other (the lap scene, the pushing the truck kiss, the sunscreen). There teasing is cute but dare I say I’ve read better banter

This line just made my crack up: “Plus, Adam was a pro-fessor, which meant that he was older and all that. Thirtysome-thing. He did look fit, but he probably had a bum knee and was only a few years short of osteoporosis.”

lol I guess I also think 30 is old but still he’s supposed to be your boyfriend 😂

This is a really fun break from the emotionally heavy hitters I’ve been reading. Great palate cleanser

I knew that was going to happen but is it really too much to ask for it to have not happened.

I think I see how these POV’s are connected and why the timelines between them haven’t been making sense to me.

I feel like I should clarify that I’m really liking it, the world is really interesting, and I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that I don’t know what’s going on. More so that I’m still waiting for pieces to click into place (unlike other books which have this happen sooner) and I’m hoping my faith in Jemisin is well worth it

I really wished I didn’t pause on this book when I had the momentum. I’m like half way with this book and still have way more questions than answers. Still feeling like I don’t know what’s going on or where we are going besides Essun is still looking for her daughter but we’ve known that for 200 pages. What else do I know about this world? Nothing

Some crazy stuff is happening but it still feels slow to grasp my attention but I’m powering through. Gonna watch some lectures etc about what’s going on so far so I can make sure I’m making sense of where the story is going. I’m hoping there will be a little more plot and the characters could shut up a little. They just talk and talk and talk

I read a little bit of this section without audiobook and I read so much faster that way lol but the audio is so good. There’s so much emotion there that hearing it is helpful in picturing the scene. Especially when the whole book is different people talking about different things

So far so good. Only a few sections of pages have been confusing (the pages about the backstory of the Elders, and the conversation about Ivan’s paper and the separation vs combination of Church and State and all that. I think I might be missing some knowledge on the popular beliefs at the time. Stupid history lol. Narration by Benedict Bridgerton is 10/10

This book just got intense

Interesting very intriguing all around. I’m still learning the world and the role everything has to play in it
