Something about book 2 is missing the charm of book 1 in this series. I feel kind of bored.

The first chapter got off to a nice pace but chapters 4-5 have dragged so far. Lots of repetitive introspection from the FMC and while the greenhouses are interesting the descriptions are really dragging.

Lack of trusting the reader to interpret subtext is killing tension. Points where there should be psychological escalation just fall flat.

I think the first 5 chapters could easily have been compressed into three chapters. There were just a few man events—the choosing, the Prince, and going to the tower. Everything else in between was a repeat of the dragon calling her an idiot and her making messes and being messy.

I got stuck around 11%, not feeling engaged with the story, but beyond that the plot started picking up and became interesting.

I don’t think the foot tor element is translating well in audiobook format because I feel like it stalls the plot.
