It was hard to get into but I’m totally entranced by Estraven now.

I think murderbot’s apathy supposed to be funny but I just don’t find it funny. I’m not sure why I’m not DNFing this. I’m very tempted.

Is this supposed to have comedic beats? I get the feeling that some things are supposed to be funny I just don’t get the humor.

14% in and really bored. I’m reminding myself it’s a brief novella and likely the gears will shift to more action and thriller. But so far it seems like it’s mainly telling and not showing.

I’m very close to DNFing. Rae’s ceaseless blah blah blah is agonizing.

That escalated…

Mark said, Louise said, Mark said, Louise said. The over-attribution in the dialogue is really irritating. This could have used another edit. I’ve been enjoying the book so far but the dialogue in this section is so clunky.

Finally something actually creepy has happened. Thus far the creepy factor hasn’t been compelling for me. It’s just been things that are copy paste from Amityville Horror (flies and priests) or mainly the mom herself who is obviously an unreliable narrator.

Clio is obnoxious and I either want her to have a growth arc or for the ghosts to get her…preference for the latter at this point.

While there are moments of Moore’s signature dark comedy, some sections read like true horror

Reading this for nostalgia. Chip’s menacing makes no sense.

At 21% I’m finally leaning into the story. It was a rocky start.
