just read the translator's introduction and the biography of the author is already very interesting and gripping!

since I'm spending a lot of time reading these books, might as well start adding them here

i found endearing this characteristic of muslim society that Bennabi calls "intellectual nomadism". when he sees in it an obstacle of progress and an inability to bend to the discipline of rules "necessary for any civilisation that it's in its core a restriction", I see it as unique benefit for our societies.. the author is frustrated, but I can read love under his exasperation lmao
