Currently in the car with a woman in her 50s who says she feels like 30. She is driving us to the other side of Poland. She says life is too short to read books you don't like, so I'm officially putting this down xoxo

She used the word unhinged twice in the first 20 pages, I'm sold

Still going at this in tiny little chunks - have nearly given up so many times, but he has finally gotten into talking about class struggle! "Yay" (to quote Harvey talking about Chapter 10)

Sometimes it suddenly feels like something CLICKS in a satisfying way but most most of the time this really feels like homework I'd rather not be doing. I feel increasingly certain there is no way we'll finish before 2025. Still, I feel a commitment to the project??? Enlightenment awaits. 2/3s to go

It's finally happening

(Requiring some serious close reading to grasp anything at all - easily easily taking me an hour for every 10 pages - but it's increasingly satisfying! Excited to keep peeling layers off this onion, to use a Harvey phrase)

Increasingly enjoyable. Chuckled twice believe it or not!! Don't think I've ever read a book where chapter 1 only starts on page 125. Bracing myself for this upcoming section on "the commodity" as word on the street is it's the dryest of them all.... Stay tuned

Impressed that Kingsolver has made the 10 yo narrator feel compelling for a full 100 pages in but sort of starting to hope he grows up a bit

Still v much in the intro. Sort of feel like I'm reading a driving manual without even knowing what a car is??? Trusting that all will make sense in due time

Undeniably starting more books than finishing at the moment. Let's see what happens to this one
