Week 1 down! 📖 Book club of two with my daughter — she asked to learn more about slavery beyond what public school covers, so I picked this. Never read it myself before now, but know the history well enough to add context as we popcorn read through Douglass's own words. Heavy and important, glad we're doing it together.

I found a line that really stuck out to me: “We all have the snorting-spilled-coke-off-bathroom-tile stories. That stuff is only interesting to those blessed with a rare cosmic remove from knowing actual addicts. Active addiction is an algorithm, a crushing sameness. The story is what comes after.”
