Just finished chapter 3 of part 2. Thought I was done for the day earlier, but was a bit bored and decided to continue reading. I feel like a broken record with how often I end up saying this, but I'm enjoying this book

Have just finished the first chapter. Absolutely love Baldwin's writing. I can't help but compare it to Mishima's Confessions of a Mask, as it also seems to deal with ideas of self-deception, but this might just be because it's the only other explicitly gay work I've read recently lol

Sylvia Plath's undoubtedly a brilliant writer but I wasn't too sure how I felt about the book up until the chapters discussing the Esther's and Buddy's relationship, and the birth scene. Feeling more positively about the book since reading them.

Finished the Sworn Sword and now halfway-ish through The Mystery Knight. Nothing else to say aside from the fact that I'm really enjoying this book

About halfway through The Sworn Sword and enjoying it just as much as The Hedge Knight. Martin does a brilliant job writing all his characters as usual.

I'm reminded of why George RR Martin is the GOAT.

I thought I was done for the day, but alas it was impossible for me to not at least finish The Hedge Knight. The Hedge Knight was such a wonderful, little story and I can't wait to read more about Dunk and Egg's adventures in the coming days :)))

Unforunately, my desire for The Winds of Winter has now increased tenfold from what it was in the days before.

It's been a long while since I read anything ASOIAF-related, so it's been great coming back into it with this book. Feels very tonally different from the main series, but it's been really enjoyable so far.

Cool read so far. Nothing particularly mind-blowing, but I imagine that's because Freud's ideas have permeated the cultural consciousness in the hundred-or-so years since this book was published. So far I'm quite partial to Freud's exploration of the "oceanic feeling" and his explanation of how the ego develops.

Starting to enjoy the book a bit more than I initially did. Still don't love McCarthy's writing style, but way more easily digestible than Blood Meridian. McCarthy does a brilliant job portraying the boy's growth and his gradual loss of innocence.

Enjoyable read so far; a lot more accessible than Blood Meridian. McCarthy's writing style is a lot less grating in this one, but I'm not as enamoured with The Road's story, as I was with Blood Meridian's, just yet.

It's a lot to take in so far. Each chapter(?) feels as if it has a fully unique writing style and it's taken me a couple of minutes after each chapter to get into the flow of the next. The second chapter about the guy trying to buy weed is probably my favourite so far, as it's a really brilliant portrayal of neurotic anxiety and after reading it I was left feeling quite anxious.

Just finished chapter 8. Still enjoying it, and it seems that the story's finally reached the boiling point, especially given the next chapter's title.

Happy to see that at least a few people are being kinder to Piggy :)

Enjoyable read so far. Already a lot of tension even though it's still early in the book, so I'm keen to see what direction everything goes.

The boys should stop being so mean to Piggy :(

have just finished book 20. enjoying the story far more than I initially thought I would. obviously it's quite different from modern prose, but the Odyssey is kind of the platonic ideal of a story in a sense (might expand upon this in a later review)

Have finished the (extensive) intro to the epic and its first three books. Quite different to anything I've read before structure-wise. Enjoying it so far, and it's cool to read a story knowing that it is at least 2700 years old.

Would be keen to check out Joyce's Ulysses at some point after finishing this, knowing that it took some inspiration from the Odyssey.

l've been reading a few of the more negative takes on Murakami over the last couple of days and although I can understand these critiques I'm not dissuaded in my love of this book. Having recently read a lot of classics, this book's been a breath of fresh air style-wise. It's amazing how Murakami is able to weave together the mundane and the fantastic. The brief reminiscences of WWII have all been spectacular.

Genuinely no clue where this book is going to go next. Just got to the part where Toru's left the well and read the letter, absolutely gut-wrenching stuff
