Interesting beginning, I liked the potential symbolism and am intrigued with the more religious imagery.

It’s interesting to read about Diana’s relationship with Fergie during her marriage, knowing now the woman’s affiliation with Epstein I like to think Diana would have distanced herself from her if she were still alive today.

I’m finally at the point in the book where Diana is coming into her own, as she begins her work with AIDS patients, as well as the homeless and the addicted. I’m so glad she had something so fulfilling in her life during such a terrible marriage.

Charles was an emotionally abusive turd of a husband to Diana, and I’m forever mad that he’s king now.

Poor Diana, she had no idea what she was in for marrying Charles.

I’ve finished chapter two, centering around Diana and Charles first meeting then later courtship. I can’t help but get the impression that he was a much older man (12 years her senior) love bombing a naive and inexperienced teenaged girl.

There’s a lot of build up to Leopold II acquiring the African Congo, I’m ready to get into the exploitative practices he conducted there.

This historical book very much reads almost like a novel, and I mean that in the best possible sense of storytelling.

Okay, it’s interesting to learn about Europeans first contact with the Congo.

This book has a very strong opening, really hooks one into the subject matter straight away. I’m excited to continue reading…

Things just keep getting worse for Miss Bart.

Feels good to pick this book back up again after almost a month of not even looking at it. I missed Wharton’s clever and lovely prose.
