While I can’t say I particularly liked Nesta, she makes a great character & I think SJM redeemed her well in the fact she never quite excused her earlier behavior. She acted horribly & she knows it & changed, but never forgot how horrible she was.

I also still think the pregnancy was overall unnecessary to happen so fast, but I can see how it was necessary for plot. Essentially to ground F&R.

Guess of mine (don’t affirm or deny my guess so I can continue my delusion that I caught a hint): the 4th unnamed supposedly lost Dread Trove item is the house. The place where Nessa is staying and her “friend” (honestly I have an attachment to them as a “character” so it’s my own wishful thinking)

Hints at Joan’s magic:
Plants in the mansion leaning towards her. “[
Not real magic, but] plants liked her”
“Unlike most witches, Joan could see it without the help of spelled glasses”
Kinda reminds me of Blue from TRC. Not being like her family, but has some special/innate ability that is adjacent to the family’s magic

Story itself I loved.
The relationship between Orok & Alexeo is adorable.
Orok still dealing with and healing from his trauma (backstory in Entanglement) and how it affects the trauma: love to see it!
The world building: so fun! Phei is a favorite.
Smut is a bit much for MY tastes, so tough for me to recommend on that front, but everything else top notch!

I give it 3.5
It was cute & definitely original in my eyes; an interesting perspective we don’t often see in fantasy. Viv isn’t the one suddenly given special abilities, but instead her 5 year old daughter.
As a child-free individual, the regular parental decisions daunt me, so add in magical parenting decisions?? Yikes.
I only wish there was some sort of key on families we meet. Names, species, parent v. Kid

I love it when the good guys start coming together!
Seems like Vivian was really struggling mentally and she found her Found Family and talked to her husband and even our badass wolf grandma said a nice thing about Viv! 🖤


(Also I totally guess Moira is behind it all. Maybe a few diff parents but she has been hot and cold all book. Plus the drinking… idk, something about it)

Finished Game Changers. Almost makes me wanna go back and reread Heated Rivalry just to go into with the small bits of backstory with Ilya that happened here. But skipping ahead to the start of #3 Tough Guy

Y’know, I appreciate the view on war. Many fantasy books kinda gloss over war as a scary but momentary thing. Literally Feyre’s first battlefield, she thinks about how seeing this, being a part of it, will change her forever. How her friends all had this moment and yet they still charge in. Just an interesting take

I’m happy there’s a long game plan to hurt Tamlin, but sad that it seems to be at the expense of Lucien 😢
We get it, Lucien F’d up but his intentions were never selfish and based on loyalty, not Pride like Tamlin’s. Lucien is also a victim of these circumstances and some culpability falls to him, but not worth the betrayal of Feyre’s friendship!

I’ll admit, I heard this series was just like other romantasy books (& others just like it) but there have been quite a few things that are just diff & I like it.
*spoiler* From something as small as her being the little sister, to them actually TALKING about boundaries & pregnancy possibilities immediately after having sex the 1st time, it’s refreshing. + they voiced the thing others don’t. They have time!

The interaction with Lucien made me sad.
Then #OnlyOneBed immediately after

Wow, still in Ch1 & they are already showing signs of Tamlin & Feyre not being 100% compatible. I knew from talk over the years that our 1st love interest falls away from being the main love interest. But not this quick!
He doesn’t wake to her nightmares & her being sick over it, and gifts her colorful dresses she hates. IRL, I’d say “girl, communicate!” But romantasy world: that’s a red flag.

Wow. Very rarely does the thing I complain about in a book get fixed like that.
Y’know, SJM, I respect it. You knew that was a weak point and you made it a weak point/annoyance for a reason.

(Talking about Tamlin’s seemingly blasé reaction to “you killed my friend!” when bringing Feyre to Faerie. I definitely thought it a weird balance, but after hearing backstory, I get it!)

A kiss on the hand, a kiss on the cheek, AMD a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding all at once?! How scandalous!

I actually like the story so far, but my biggest issue: stakes were so high & feels wrong for the level of mercy Tamlin gives.
In Beauty & the Beast, the imprisonment with the nice digs boils down to trespassing. You (or your father) trespass? You must live out your days here, never to return home!
In this: you KILL my friend? Treaty says you come with me. Idc what you do after that. +respect growing fast from that.

For the book club!

I adore this so far. They’re just so dumb but I love them.
When it switched to Kit’s POV, I was thrown at first… thinking we’d get much of what was told from his perspective, but I wouldn’t have been mad, honestly. Definitely well written from the idea that neither version is WRONG, but neither had all the facts and was skewed by emotions.
Also, everything is SO gay! Everyone, everything, everywhere.
