A Drink from Heaven--a widow's prayer cloth is destroyed and she refuses to eat so her family convinces her that she's died and gone to heaven, where the only thing that she'll consume is Pepsi, the cost of which is driving the family to financial ruin. There's a lot going on in this story.

I'll bet author Desai is a page counter too (like this lousy reader) Almost exactly a quarter of a way through this narrative, the crumb bum artist Ilan who has been making Sonia's life miserable, gets noticed by the Art World, his wife returns, and Sonia is thrown out on her ass. She has yet to meet Sunny.
