i'm more invested in mentally calculating this person's age (so many time jumps to tell backstory, but i think he's 18 based on him being 16 when his father died?) than his father trauma or his very ill-advised drop site adventure

Enjoyed the concept and imagery in The Crowing. Deeply wishing Angelus had been longer, but I also need to reread the start bc i had trouble concentrating several times maybe because it was alao harder to ground myself and envision it in my head. But I loved the horror ending!
Off to a better start than I expected.

I wish this had been exciting starting 30% in, not ramping up toqard exciting at 60%.

explained to a family member what fridging was laat week and felt the need to re-read this little romp through not-quite-infringement fridged and oppressed women. proud to recognize more of the characters and scenarios from Marvel and DC that Valente took inspiration from. currently 3 for 3

moat of these feel grounded and hopeful in a way where I can believe in the actions people take and the changes they affect. maybe 2 pieces in the collection so far really gripped me, but they've all been decent. I need to balance out the optimism with horror from another source, tho

I think i'm officially what Publisher's Weekly would refer to as a "diehard fan," like when they say "this one's for diehard fans only." A Trade of Bood got great professional reviews, but I think i'll keep on even when the review journalists eventually sour or grow weary

not bad, but not blowing my socks off. Definitely curious to experience more of the stories; i'm defninitely enjoying the ending notes of hope and resistance

loving the descriptions from the forest's perspective, and the ecological horror. i hope this finishes strong

the self sabotage and problematic relationship with alcohol are killing meeeeee but also there are some very resonant lines in here

oop, audiobook chapters are severely mislabeled. difficult at parties is the last story and it is not the same as the artist's residency story

feeling surprised at how few short stories are in this, the audiobook chapters are poorly labeled. enjoying the ominous atmosphere of this last short story

"Eight Bites" was good and also so triggering for me, wahooooo. watch out, folks with EDs

Less and also Martyr! vibes? though this section of story with the Bodhi is much longer than expected and the tension it's building is making me stressed. probably in an important way? we'll see how it ends and how it fits with the rest of Raja's tellings

i don't know if you heard, but this book is absolutely charming. i'm pleasantly surprised and feel ready to comp it to Less for its humor, but with darker themes and a memoir vibe instead of a self discovery journey + love story

starting to wonder if i should have read plot summaries for law & order svu before continuing with my current short story so i'd know what was being picked out or changed from the season plots.

finally starting this after *years* of wanting to read it (I loved In The Dream House) and what a kick off point, to retell a story from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark?? looking forward to seeing how it wraps up and what the other shorts have in store

so far so good, we're going for disturbing rather than adrenaline, which i think has a chance of ending strong, though I'm not sure what will happen with Elijah's subplot.

first 3 chapters were bangers, I forgot how much i loved Rivers Solomon's writing! fingers crossed their third act holds up this time around

Rest Stop qas out-of-this-world good and scary. Enjoying some of the stories that are just flitters, they're so quick. Less terror, more dark. Nat Cassidy might be another favorite for me

"Rest Stop" has been absolutely nerve-wracking and made me cringe in fear of my limbs so many times, I love this. Surpassing expectations, I feel lucky to be alive and experience this when this novella is still pretty new to the world.

library hold finally came in again. the pop culture references feel cheesy but the critique of engineering education and practice is still condemning

pregnancy horror in two flavors recently-
you weren't meant to be human: pregnancy is against protagonist's will, makes him horribly dysphoric. time spent pregnant is agonizingly long

trad wife: pregnancy is so desperately desired, protagonist has sex with a well cryptid, telling herself it's a sign from God. speedruns through 1st and trimester in 1 day

I love the horror genre
