I am so close! You know why I struggle with this book? A lot of times I am confused with WHAT IS GOING ON - that I re-read passages many times. This book is humbling to say the least. But because of that I haven’t been able to sink into the prose the way I am used to. It’s written experimentally. At times a stream-of-consciousness and others it’s a structured narrative. Is there a pattern? Only the end knows.

This book was written for the poetry lovers. For those visually inclined to street views of people’s lives and emotions. Of the places they visit and the people met in day-to-day life. It just so happens that on this day - a close friend has attempted suicide and the occupants and experiences of the day to day are pulled into examination to understand why. Want to finish this today.

The theme of activism being part of survival and its demand on health has ripped my soul in half.

Fred Holt’s introduction was the most fun I’ve had with a piece of prose this year. This book is a so hard as it not jumps from character to character’s stories but it’s usually taken from an omniscient narrator! Which means we are jumping from mind to mind. It’s so fun but CHALLENGING. I am in heaven.

Of course this is in my hands. I wish I could read all night…it’s so bittersweet to be reading this final adventure with Lyra Silvertongue.

The King just got pregnant and she just finished describing Kemmer. I am jealous of Gethenians and their lack of pressure from gender. I am still absolutely so bored by AI’s mission but fascinated by a society that is able to freely choose gender and have any person become pregnant and give birth.

Some chapters are difficult as they demand self-awareness and humility, others are ones filled with hallelujah and amens. Regardless, I feel seen and loved reading this book.
