Gripping so far, but there’s something a bit uncomfortable about King’s writing. It feels very out of place today. He leans on dated ethnic stereotypes, and it irks me when authors use the verb ‘rape’ inappropriately to describe something as comparatively innocuous as conducting a search of someone’s property. It’s just not comparable to the crime it should be exclusively reserved for describing.

Was fine until the one fictional character of the book was motivated into action by the tropiest shit ever. 🙄 Yawn. May keep reading, but that’s put a damper on things.

What a strange book. Is there a plot? Sure, it’s got a plot for the first and last 10%, but everything in-between has nothing to do with it. The characters are uninteresting and the filler is boring. I struggled getting through this, and the payoff was not worth the time. If you like flashbacks that are only tangentially related to the main storyline and you enjoy unnecessary tangents, this might be the book for you.

Well, we’re off to a great start. 🙄 The highly trained female first officer’s immediate concern before setting off on an uncertain voyage into the stars is not the ship or the welfare of the crew, but who she can hook up with and eventually have kids with when the colonisation of a new world occurs. 🤦‍♂️ I don’t know why I’m surprised. It’s a 1970s Sci Fi book written by a dude.

Someone needs to tell Blake Crouch that no one uses .avi files anymore and haven’t since about 2005. 😜 Otherwise, things are relatively entertaining.

It’s like ‘Limitless’ with pills swapped for DNA splicing. 🤷‍♂️💊🧬
