extremely gripped for the first third, but now i feel a little out of my depth. now i’m third wheeling two music buffs who are going back and forth about technicalities i can’t appreciate because it’s so over my head.

THEN he said there’s a minority of women capable of understanding, appreciating and supporting men in their pursuits. When he does describe these “clever” women he says they know how to balance between the values of the good old days where women looked at their men like they were god and loving them was less about love more about devotion and more modern aspects

Word count capped me. Anyways, he talks about how fundamentally out of line men and women are socially, how men’s interests in politics, patriotism, society, philosophy is too fictional, abstract and unrealistic to women who’s world is their home, and the sustenance of their children and family, and who want and i quote “a luxurious and posh life” and don’t understand men’s sacrifices for their politics.

I’m so disappointed. I picked up two of Mostafa Mahmoud’s books ahead of an essay I wanted to write on his philosophy and depth of knowledge. While his book سواح في دنيا الله started off with great promise and really charmed me with his way of thinking of faith and religious identity, this one pissed me tf off.

The chapter “Majnun’s Father Bids Him Farewell” is so beautiful I’ve not been able to move on from it for two days and I’ve copied it out in full in my journal. Nezami Ganjavi I literally never doubted your game
