Please recommend a detective series that DOESN'T start with a serial killer.
I can't stand stories about serial killers.
Barring that, a series that I can start at book 2 or 3 in the series, avoiding the serial killer and still able to understand the world/characters.

skim city. Listening to this on Audible for free. Jumped a couple of chapters after chapter 3. Picked up the pace so getting better. Like the speed setting, too. Another way to skim. The reader is good; able to differentiate btwn the voices of various characters in a way that isn't distracting or sounds artificial.

ISO a detective series that doesn't start with a serial killer or is explicit or also in the horror genre.

I might DNF this. The romance is too ditsy for me. I wish there was more plot/story and less angst. I get it they're conflicted and at cross purposes. I'd like to know about the problem they're trying to solve.
