A Libby hold suddenly became available

This book kinda snuck up on me. I didn't expect to read it so soon after it was recommended to me but once I started I found myself unable to stop.

In my efforts to better understand Portuguese, I'm trying to read more literature in its original language. For various reasons, Memórias Posthumas de Braz Cubas proved a bit difficult for me right now, so I'm moving to a more modern classic.

I need something light after many heavy books recently.

Chapters 90 and 91 almost made me cry. One of the most powerful scenes I've ever read.

Laughing at the line, "...he thrust a thousand daggers into my heart; admittedly they were stage daggers with disappearing blades, but he thought they were real enough." (Chapter 78, pp 843).

Wow... this book is something else. I am extremely impressed by Dumas's dedication to realism and accuracy with all non-fictional details. Furthermore, I'm impressed by the depth of characterization of everyone in the book. It's a lot to take in, but it's so worth it. I can easily imagine myself waiting (more or less) each week for the next installment when it was first serialized in 1844-1845.

We're trying again, for real this time.
