What a glorious struggle both for the characters in this novel and in my own mind to read about it! Victor Hugo builds such a world so beautifully haunting but remiss in one singular characteristic, that which is brevity. Thank you Victor Hugo. Much of this novel might mean more to me if I was french or if I had any inkling as to what in the world you were talking about. Such is life.
