why haven't i read this sooner!? le guin's writing perfectly matches the old-world tone of early fantasy.

decided to write my essay on this except it’s due in two weeks and i’m not even halfway through the book. eek.

okay on one hand it totally holds up, on the other hand rin just let out a breath she didn't know it was holding. diagnosed debut novel syndrome.

can’t stop starting new books 😭😭

okay actually I take it back this was adapted into a book from a collection of interlinked short stories, so the repetitive introductions actually make sense! if the writing was more modern mcguire style I could see this being really great, but for now it’s just good.

we just keep going random directions that I wasn’t expecting

kinda love the vignette structure of this, i just wish it was a bit less repetitive 😭

this is soo readable but i keep having to pause from secondhand embarassment. looove murder investigations

douglass is an excellent writer - enjoying this as much as one can enjoy an autobiography of time spent in slavery.

this is literally just washing over me and i'm taking in maybe 30% of it. i think my problem is that i'm ultimately not too interested in what he has to say.
