this is the first ilona andrews book where it feels like ilona and gordon worked on their separate chapters entirely solo, and only combined brains when absolutely necessary. nowhere near the narrative heights of hidden legacy, and nowhere near the prose heights of kate daniels. somewhere in the mid-tier of both narrative and prose, which is a rare feat for a writing duo that is normally extremely compelling.
