For a book about running, this is damn slow

Today at work an old lady mentioned she was reading this and when I tossed out my Woody Allen theory she did NOT like it

never read Towles before, but I've heard enough to know this first story seems fairly on brand. What I didn't expect was how satirical his take on Communist Russia would be. He's a sharp, witty writer, but also a very literary one. Mostly good signs?
