It's always so fascinating to compare what I expect out of a book based on the cover/blurb and to see what I actually get.

I read the synopsis of this book and immediately added it to my wishlist. I'm so glad I can finally sit down and read it.

I can already tell my eventual review of this book will make people mad...

Waited on hold for three months for this book. Hopefully it's worth the wait!

Audiobook is 4 and a half hours. I am determined to make a dent in my to-read list!

Surrealism is so hard to get down in the written word, but I feel like Miéville does such a good job of it.

Finally get to read this and cross this off my list. Perdido Street Station by the same author is one of my favorite books, so excited for this one too.

The way this book ramped up is incredible. It started with an adventurous romp with pirates, if a bit tense. The book is going so damn hard with its spiraling and its got me hooked.

Enjoying this book so far. Listening to it via audiobook, but I've had to check out the physical book as well since the narrator can be borderline incomprehensible with some of the voices he's doing.

I was doing a marathon of Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Before I go on to watch On Stranger Tides, I want to read the book it is based off of.

Stalling a bit on this book... I'm finding it a bit hard to make it through the beginning and I'm getting distracted by other books. But I do want to try and finish at least a little more of it.

I can't believe how much I'm relating to Rincewind on a personal level. Dude's a wizard and yet I understand what he's going through.

Despite tempering my expectations of this book based on suggestions, I'm still rather enjoying it. The prose has that perfect execution of "flowery, verbose wit" that I think is really fun to read. The humor can be subtle, which I find very refreshing and a rare thing to find in today's humor books.

I've been wanting something lighthearted and fun to read, so starting reading this. It's been on my shelf for ages. I hear nothing but the utmost praise for this series, but always been hesitant because it was so overhyped for me, was worried that my expectations had been made too unfairly high. But decided that life is too short to hesitate all the time!

Uh...okay. Yet another character development in the story I did not see coming at all...

I admit, I thought this book's format would be a little more meta, more in the vein of House of Leaves. So far, it's looking to be just like reading two books. Not sure how I feel about that, but Pünd's story is legitimately kind of interesting, so it's not too bad to get through. I feel like I haven't read enough classic murder mysteries, so this is scratching some kind of itch in a non-direct way.

Holy crap. I can't spoil it because it's a massive one but...did not see this coming at all. I'm a little shook.

Halfway point!!

I'm doing it, I'm finally reading this book. I've had it on my to-read list forever, and I've had the beat-up copy of it hanging out on my bookshelf forever.

The alternate history in this book is fascinating to hear about. It makes me want to listen to other books in a similar genre.

I read so few books with main characters that have visible parents AND who have good relationships with them, it legitimately a shock to see it in this book.

The world building in this book is legitimately fascinating to me, but the way it's presented to the reader is just...kind of a mess. I'll be reading and Novik will introduce some new concept or creature or aspect of magic society that'll have me like, "Oh, okay. I guess that's a thing." and it gives me whiplash.

Maw-mouths? Voids? Golden Enclaves? I wish this stuff had been woven in from the beginning.
