Really can't get into this style, putting it on hold for the moment to read something else.

Not that thrilled so far... Liked the Themis files a lot, but this is somehow lacking something, not sure what. Let's see if it improves.

Reminds me a lot of the Themis Files series, in terms of the style and mystery involved in it. Looking forward to reading the rest of this!

I've said it before (about red sister) and I'll say it again: Mark Lawrence knows how to set a hook with the first few lines of a book.

Max is on page 60 of 136 of exit RACISM: rassismuskritisch denken lernen

Jesus christ. This book should come with a TW for basically everything. Harm to humans and animals, in some cases described in some detail. Uh, if you can't deal with this, don't read this book. (It's still a good book and didn't trigger me like that, but I figured I'd let you know early).

To pass the time and stay in contact in these weird times, I am currently doing a re-read of this book, reading it aloud and recording it via voice messages to a friend who lives in a different city. I very much recommend such an arrangement - there is a very special feeling when you a reading a book for someone else, which really helps calm me down in the evening.

How is Monstress Vol. 4 not even on the shortlist for the Goodreads Choice Award in the Graphic Novels category?!

This book has some really whimsical writing, which I quite enjoy. Describing the size of a room as "you could swing a cat, but you would get claw marks on the walls" is pretty great.

Could not stand the noise, switching to the BBC Podcast version of the book (same content, just in english). Will keep it tied to this book on Goodreads, though.

Found this via Dr. Nerdlove, via Captain Awkwars. I was initially sceptical, because "dating advice" is usually fraught with questionable gender ideas, to say the least. Then I read his article on how Masculinity hurts men (https://www.doctornerdlove.com/mascul...) and I was convinced that he's probably okay. So far, the book seems reasonable, if not quite as "woke" (hate that word) as Captain Awkward.

Christ, this audio book takes some getting used to, with all their samples of music, industrial noise, cars and speeches mixed in. Not sure how I feel about this.

Christ, the old saying really is true: "The only thing worse than the illness is the cure." This history of cancer and its treatment is quite good, if you can call anything having to do with cancer "good".

Finally, finally, FINALLY got my hands on a printed version of this to continue reading it (the new edition was sold out so thoroughly that I had to wait 3 months (!) for my copy), and what can I say, it's pretty great. If you enjoy chemistry and space technology, delivered with a lot of wit, then this book is for you.

Listening to the excellent audiobook. Pretty cool stuff, some very interesting perspectives. If you've always wanted to know how Homo Sapiens came to be the dominant species on planet earth, or in what way lawyers are actually powerful shamans, give this a read.

I'm not yet done, but so far, this is a clear 5-star. Highly recommended scientific, but approachable book on the science of sleep and what the consequences of not getting enough of it can be. Get this book, then get some proper sleep. (The audiobook version is done very well)

This book is very well-written and provides a fascinating history of the development of religions, and how the structures of the pantheons have followed the lived experience of the people doing the worshipping (e.g., when centralized rule and leaders became the norm, the pantheons would also gain a pre-eminent God like Zeus, which they did not have before that). Highly recommended if you are interested in history.

As this was appearantly highly relevant in other Sanderson books (esp. in the Stormlight Archives series), I deided to re-read this, because I must have missed basically all of these references, and I want to find out what I missed. Here I come, Hoid.

Definitely different from what I expected. This turned out to be a collection of essays from a far-left anarchist sociologist. Still, some very interesting ideas about Bureaucracy in here, looking forward to the second half.

This book is, pardon the pun, depressing. If what Hari writes is true, basically everything you have ever been told about the causes and "solutions" (i.e., pills) for depression is a lie.
