Lena totally hates the society she lives in now and wants to escape as soon as possible. It has been repeated several time how dangerous it is for you the get pass the gates and into the Wilds. I think the author did this to foreshadow obstacles that may happen during Lena and Alex's escape. I also think that Lena may be able to see her mom again since now she knows that her mom is not dead and was able to escape.

I notice that Lena have lot of flashback on her mother who was infected with the disease "love". This may be authors craft because it foreshadows the steps Lena will take. Even though everyone else thought of Lena's mom as a shameful person, Lena respected and showed a little admiration towards her mom. Therefore, Lena will most likely follow the footsteps of her mom and be "infected" by love

Reed is trying to prove Josh innocent but Ms. Lewis-Hanneman is not cooperating. She is obviously lying because in the text it says,"Ms. Lewis-Hanneman lost all color. It was like watching a milk bottle empty" (28). This face expression proves that Ms. Lewis-Hanneman is hiding information about the murder of Thomas. I think the author used this to create a better plot or to add suspense to this mystery.

Jeanette have a very lonely life because her her family is always moving around. ""Bad news... Dad lost his job. Dad kept it for nearly 6 months-longer than any other... I wonder where we'll live next" (67). Because Jeanette's dad is always changing jobs, it is very hard for Jeanette to settle down. This proves that the inconsistency in Jeanette's dad's job is causing Jeanette to live more of a lonely life.

One theme of the book is people choosing before they think about things thoroughly. For example, there is Jonathan Halfway a man that is five years older than Keisha, only knew Keisha a few months and is very mysterious. On the other hand, there is Leon who obviously likes Keisha, known her since kindergarten and known to be a nice guy. However,Keisha chooses to go with Jonathan Halfway just because he is a "man"...

Jonathan Hathaway is a very mysterious character. He seems to be a player who fools around with girls; however, he acts as of he is very nice to them. This can be concluded by Rita's sudden disappearance. Rita usually hang around to all sorts of guys especially someone that is said to look hot like Jonathan. Keisha is a very brave girl. Even after her ex-boyfriend suicide, she is still able to recover or at least hide her sadness. In the book Keisha is always comforting Monty, Andy's brother, and her other friends when she is the one that is in need of comfort. Furthermore, I think Keisha is a very nice friend. In the story, her friend Rhonda is always making out with her boyfriend in Keisha's face after Andy died...

The main idea this chapter is to act before it is too late. In the story, Tony's mom have been beat up countless times by her abusive boyfriend;however, Tony never had the courage to fight back. This caused his mom to get beat up even worst. In the text it said,“lies my mother...her shirt soaked through with blood." His mom was hurt so badly that she had to be sent to the ER. An author's craft that was used in this book is wording. It is very noticeable that there are many slang and inappropriate words used in most of the paragraphs. This creates a very dangerous and sad mood. For example, "A fu*king b*tch. Just like your mom (81.)" This shows how messed up the neighborhood Tony lives in is because rude comments like the one just said is always happening.

From the first line of the book, author's craft is shown. Devine starts off the story with a violent scene where Tony's mother is getting beat up by her boyfriend.In the text, it says" He hits her again, twice, dense flesh on flesh" (1). This hook really caused me to keep on reading. I think the author's craft used here will attract many readers to continue reader.

I think one theme of this book is to be learn more about that person before you fully trust a person. In the story Ares, the war god, tricked Percy to doing a "safe" mission for him. This caused Percy to be outcast to Olympus acting like a fool. In the end, Ares commented that, " Well, well, you didn't get yourself killed" (242). I thought that Rick Riordan has a very special way of telling the story. He writes it where the story get switched point of view. For example one chapter will be Carter telling the story, then, the next chapter will be Sadie telling the story. This way the reader gets to know how both siblings feel but no one else.The author's way of writing made it more easier to understand the plot of the story.

Even thought I am only a few chapters into the book, I know that Jaz is a person that is dependable and can be trusted on. In the story, Walt gets harmed due to these spirits so Jaz sacrifice must of her own energy to save his life. I think Emma's parent are very suspicious. They obviously knew about Thomas Quinn Healy, Emma's dead twin;however, they decided to stay silent and not speak about it. This makes me wonder about Thomas' death. I think Emma's parents had something to do with their son's death making them to not speak about him for fifteen years. If Emma did not see his birth certificate in the attic it would have been a secret forever.

Ishmael is finally removed from the government army to rehab at the UNICEF. However, sixteen year old Ishmael has became a murderer and all he know is to kill. Rehab seem very unusual to him. He was used to seeing dead bodies, going high on drugs and killing mobs of people each day. One line that Ishmael said struck me," I feel as if there is noting left for me to be alive for...I have no family, it is just me"(167.)

I think Ishmael Beah is a very brave boy. As a teenage boy that is only fourteen, Ishmael have became a soldier that not just fight for the country but also for his survival. His close friend Saidu had just passed away yet Ishmael have to keep on going. “His journey in this world had ended." We, on the other hand, had to continue. Ishmael is very brave to keep on fighting after having to go through so much sorrow.

I thought that they way the author started out the book was very unique. "I was seventeen years old when I saw my first dead body"(1.)Right at the first page of the book, it talks about Cullen's cousin,Oslo dies because he overdose. I wonder if this foreshadows other events that may happen in the book. Will there be other death cases happening? This start creates suspicion to what might happen later on in the story.

"I shield myself in a barrier of protection to knock down any negative or criticism...I have to keep my eye on a brighter, healthier future"(235). Hayley finally got through cancer with out loosing her leg yet side effects are coming back to torment her. Hayley is loosing hair by handfuls. This quote was really meaningful because it shows the power of thinking positively and not giving up...

At first, I thought the author was using a quote so the main idea of that certain chapter will be more clear. However, I have been noticing that there is a quote designated for each chapter. One quote that I agree the most with is in the one given in chapter seven. "In time of test, family is best." - Burmese Proverb. Friends are good, but right now, Hayley is taking tests because she is told to have a cancer...

Even thought I am only fifty pages in the book, one of the themes of the book is already shown. The author is trying to show us that life is unfair. In the story, Hayley tried very hard to join cheer leading and she finally makes the squad. However, she later out found out that she got cancer! After working so hard so join the team, she is infected with cancer. This proves how unfair and sad life is.

I think the author used the movie Casablanca as an analogy to Isabel's love life. Even though Conrad suddenly coming back makes Isabel feel in love, she decided that,"Conrad only have a tiny piece of her heart while Jeremiah would have everything else. In the movie Ilsa ends up with Laszlo because according to Isabel Rick was " nothing but a tiny piece of her past.." That's exactly how she feels towards Conrad.

Jeremy is an very arrogant guy. Carmen is just trying so say hi but instead he offends her by asking if she is hunting the finalists of the competition. Even though, Carmen says that she is mad at Jeremy, I　can infer that she still have crush on him. However, I hope she will change her mind on that because Jeremy is really not the right guy for Jessica.
