Prior to Future Home of the Living God I had not read Louise Erdrich's work before. I will be rectifying this great error on my part. On the surface, FHOTLG reminds me of A Handmaid's Tale, but deeper down it reads more like the personal musings of an author trying to reconcile her native heritage with her Catholic beliefs. The recent, chaotic devolution provides an excellent foil for our protagonist to wrestle with

So good. So powerful. The ending tied things up nicely but left just enough left unsaid to be satisfyingly unsatisfying. "No one wants to disappear. Words pin things down and make them real, and they last so much longer than we do."
