i have time to read again, and witchlight just came out last month. time for a series reread 🥹 and i’m lowk emotional about it

i went to read the newest book and realized i forgot everything, and my libby loan is about to expire, so quick series reread here we go

if i had a nickel for every time lewis nearly critiqued the way christianity was used to further the colonialism of the british empire and then shied away from it at the last minute, i’d have at least 2 nickels. and it’s only 2.5 hours into the audiobook. gah. come on man the point is *right there* you almost had it.

hi white author in the 1960s co-opting the word “jihad” doesn’t sit right with me

now that the last book is out, i can unabashedly say mistborn era 2 > era 1 (also i need answers bc there’s always another secret)

i can go ahead and say i won’t be okay when i’m done with this book. the question is, will i be sobbing or completely unhinged and brimming with crackpot theories?

can’t believe tahereh managed to turn the best enemies to lovers into childhood friends to amnesia to enemies to lovers. brilliant. amazing. 10/10

respectfully, yikes to just about everything in this. it has not aged well since 2003. the anti-romani sentiment is very pronounced, with a side of fatphobia. i made the commitment to buy the whole series and have all the audiobooks borrowed from the library. i’m gonna try to get through the series to see if it gets better, but really not enjoying it rn

this book has been on my list of things to read so long that i didn’t even look at the description when i found the entire series at the used bookstore. the first sentence is literally “gemma doyle isn’t like other girls” and the misogyny is already here. oh well. very much a product of 2003

literally can’t get over the fact that maggie went “mister impossible is a great and absolutely not ridiculous name for a book. very appropriate follow up to call down the hawk”
