I’m a moderate, so I like to stay away from books containing endorsement blurbs from Rachel Maddow - or Ben Shapiro. The preface mentions FDR giving Stalin “the benefit of the doubt” (true) “an attitude not shared by ally…Winston Churchill” (false; they’d competed to befriend & understand him) “nor Roosevelt’s successor, Harry Truman” (true). It’s a bit concerning the author didn’t know that.

I get that to be in the position Bezos is in, you have to be insanely driven, rule your company w/absolute control; lines between fear and dedication become blurred for employees. Just ~20% in, and it’s already about destroying small businesses that pose no threat of competition, firing employees who fell into the bottom 10% of performers at the end of the quarter w/stacked ranking systems… what a nightmare.

Should finish this tonight too… I really have no plans of finishing the Stalin biography this year. It really is meticulously detailed and dry, albeit, you learn everything more than you ever thought you needed to know. This book has been as horrifying as expected; given her other book has stayed with me since I read it in 2021-2022.

I’ve put off reading this for a reason. Men Who Hate Women was brutal enough… 😞

I will, at the very least, take a day before 2025 ends to review nearly every book I haven’t so far. Pinky promise! Lol.
