Maybe Oxford could find someone for these broad subject overviews who doesn't feel the need to make axe-grinding a major part of their work? I'm sorry the post-modernists made you feel dumb but we're here to talk about Sociology.

It doesn’t seem like this guy made a genuine effort to understand the subject he’s writing about. I mean, could you give us an explanation of what postmodernism is before the crushing weight of your animus against it overwhelms your ability to form words?

This turned out to be entirely about the physical concept of “nothing”, as opposed to the philosophical or mathematical one. I was hoping for a bit more of a survey of the various fields. Good book, though.

The authors contempt for his chosen subjects is pretty odd-putting.

For example, at one point he attempts to correct the record as he sees it so Sartre does not mistakenly look good regarding how he got out of a Nazi concentration camp. According to the legend, he assures us, Sartre escaped from a Nazi Concentration Camp. Don’t believe it though, because the author knows he actually only forged documents and

My library copy expired literally 20 minutes before the end of this one. I've added my name to the hold list, but it will probably be a few weeks or a month before I get to finish it.
