Nope. I’m actively frustrated by this narrator. I’m DNF’ing this.

There’s a CHANCE that I’ll try again another time with the audiobook, but not in the near future.

COLLECTIONS (Amber Blaeser-Wardzala)

This was really interesting, especially the further into the story I read. I really wish there were more to the ending instead of just leaving off where it did, even a few paragraphs more. It didn’t feel finished to me.
Otherwise it was quite good and worth a reread!

THE SCIENTIST’S HORROR STORY (Darcie Little Badger)
Something about science in horror really gets my heart pumping and my brain panicking. Loved this story and it’s made me realize I should really get more of Darcie Little Badgers works, as I loved this and “Elatsoe”!

I’m considering DNF’ing already. The narrator’s cadence makes me actively fume. Why does the middle of a sentence sound like the end?!!? This isn’t how people talk!

Gonna skip to chapter 1 to see if it’s part of the writing style or actually the narrator as there is a CHANCE that this is a writing style I cannot stand, not a fault of the narrator. But I want to know before I DNF.

Capgras (Tommy Orange)

Im not entirely sure what to make of this story, but it was good, gripping.

Eulogy for a Brother, Resurrected (Carson Faust)

I can tell you the cost of my brother’s body.

This was an interesting story of grief and resurrection. I am both glad it ended where it did, while also wanting more.

Sundays (David Heska Wanbli Weiden)
A look at the horrors faced by some in residential schools. :(

Uncle Robert Rides the Lightning (Kate Hart)
An interesting series of snapshots about one no longer here.

Oooh we are finally approaching resolution! This is gonna be interesting to see how it pans out.

The Prepper (Morgan Talty)
This was an interesting story about mental illness and looking back on the way it can twist words, events, stories when unwell to fit the narrative one’s unwell brain may come up with. It was good!

Dead Owls (Mona Susan Power).

I liked the full circle moment with the cranes as protection.

Still not revealed but I’m glad Fred is having such a good time with (re-)kindling relationships. It’s going to be sad as hell when word gets around!

The Longest Street in the World
Interesting character relationship! It was a good, quick read once I got into it. (Text formatting was almost like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with how it went across the page sometimes!)

Oh you poor child! You shouldn’t have to deal with any of this!!

I wasn’t sure if I’d like how this started, but so far I’m loving Fred’s character!

Scariest story Ever: This went somewhere I wasn’t expecting but I LOVE the message. As someone who is working, themself, to record and share the stories of their own elders, I think this is so important. Record your elders stories. Share them. Don’t let their stories die.

Heart-Shaped Clock: Something about the timeline in this made me a little confused. Overall it was a good story, though!

Behind Colin’s Eyes:
I LOVE the voice in this story. The thoughts italicized and in brackets pays off in the last line. This writing style makes me want to seek out more of Shane Hawk’s writing.

Night in the Chrysalis: The house is living. The house is wanting. The house desires.

Before I Go: Not my cup of tea. Ended up putting down the story in the middle and not getting back into it for a while. Nothing against it, just not my thing.

Snakes Are.Born in the Dark: Loved the difference in all the characters views of these petroglyphs and the message of what happened to those treating them poorly.

The Ones Who Killed Us: This didn’t stick out to me. :/

Hunger: oh my gosh i LOVED this! The monster as the main character was so cool to see the thoughts of! Will reread this one for sure!

Quantum: The story was good and made for an interesting conflict. (Not sure what all to say without getting into spoilers.)

Wingless: Again, Punk and the main characters relationship made for an interesting read and family dynamic.
