I haven’t read this since high school. On this pass, I was pretty much with it up until this point. I believe this part may be in earnest. It’s so close to getting it. And tripping at the finish line.

The thou mayest speech made me tear up

Took me a while to catch that the scars are the mark of Cain. Probably because the main place I’ve heard of it is from the musical Children of Eden.

We’ve now introduced joyless girl who is a personality disorder candidate.

It’s worth noting that all the mothers/wives are joyless and suffering from some kind of disorder. I do not believe this is intentional.

This book has been a real struggle for me to get through. Currently I am only reading through the actual story text and it is god-awful boring. The author makes a point of NOT following any interesting topics, as demonstrated now pointedly for the second time on page 145 where none of the characters want to talk about the interesting thing. The main character is boring as sin. What am I supposed to pay attention to?

I’m already bored

The language is so delightful and delicious and colorful and hella creepy

The male protagonist's opinion of that one really slow song from GHOST so matches my own I almost feel as though the author time traveled to quote me.

This book takes work to read

So far, so good! I am learning all the references I have missed all my life

I am bored of this plot. Pleasedeargod let me finish so I can get on with my life
