They pulled an interesting rearrangement for the TV adaptation of this series. It was self-published by the author, and it’s very much a “book” setting, as the stories aren’t told in order. The season finale event happens in the middle of Book 1. This is followed by
flashbacks, and then the author continues the story beyond the tv show. I assume the second half will be shown in Season 2.

So far this isn’t quite as fascinating as his lectures on mystics and heretics, but I’m learning plenty. It has focused mostly on the massive changes in Europe in the 1300s. I’m listening to it in preparation for his other lecture series, The Other 1492: Ferdinand and Isabella….

I have 4.5 hours left in this book, and the content is so disturbing that reading it now feels like an act of torture. I’m only up to the early 2010s...
