The Family Quarrel
I had set this aside for a week or more. Although the focus of the book is the southern campaign, these past 3 chapters does discuss events prior to the war fought below the Potomac during the 1780-81 period.

The Riddle of the Sands: A Record of Secret Service
Originally published in 1903. This 2011 Penguin Classics edition has a wonderful introduction by Childers' great-grandson. What an amazing life the author had and a terrible ending.

Once again GR won't let me change the edition I am reading, which is the 2014 Vintage paperback. This was Lawhon's debut. A historical fiction mystery based on an unsolved disappearance of Judge Joseph Crater in the 1930's.

I've moved from a book that was set within the world of video gaming to one that has a lot of math i it. Neither areas are strong suits for me. But both are heavy on relationships.

Thank goodness you don't have to be a gamer to enjoy this wonderful story, but I did have to look up what "ludic dissonance" meant.

Did Men really call their wives "little girl"? in this era?? How infantilizing! Is Mrs. Pritchard really this submissive or is it all an act to exert some control over her husband?
A comment from Mr. Pritchard to the young WWII vet Ernest seems so relevant today.
There's a kind of cynicism running around the country. It seems to me young people have lost faith in America.

I was unfamiliar with Simone Weil, and appreciated the wonderful 22 pp introduction to her life and spiritual philosophy by Laurie Gagne, woo eidted this slim volume of some of Weil's essays.

I am enjoying this. Set in the 14th century. Probably not for people who don't like descriptions of childbirth, illness and treatments of the times.
