So far, I am appreciating the information presented. However, its method of presentation can be difficult to follow. It is a book that, to me, requires effort to read and understand. While that is not inherently a bad thing, it is something to consider. I am curious about alternatives that might present the same information more clearly.

I just finished the first part of the book. So far I am only mildly impressed. The book does a good job of explaining early theological differences. However, it is written in such a way as to almost imply that the theological beliefs of apostolic fathers were born out of debate rather than brought into it. In this regard, it is a little unbalanced.

This has been a really good read so far. I'm not terribly knowledgeable in Church history and this has proven to be a great overview. While a single book cannot contain everything, this book is giving a good bird's eye view.
