Already this is so much more charming than I remembered. It’s interesting to see the narrating voice change so much over the course of the book, and then by the time we get to LotR.

Favorite parts: Gandalf‘s introduction as he interrogates poor Bilbo on the true meaning of „Good morning“, and the dwarves mocking Bilbo with their plate song.

It’s time for another re-read!

I’d like to spend the rest of the year on another close reading of Tolkien‘s legendarium, including keeping a reading journal and listening to my favorite podcasts chapter by chapter.

The Hobbit has never been a favorite book of mine and I haven’t read it nearly as often as LotR, but I’m looking forward to seeing what new insights I can find this time around.

I am breaking my “no new books in January” rule for this and it’s absolutely amazing so far. I am enchanted.
(The English audiobook is beautifully narrated, too, by the way.)

This one is boring me to death, and I have a strong suspicion it’s all my fault. (Insert face-covering monkey emoji)

Finally found him, the male author who writes complex, convincing female characters *even in a book about a male ice hockey team*! This has me excited in so many ways, can’t wait to see where we’re heading.

I’m giving up. This is incredibly slow and boring and all the characters are so unlikeable.

I honestly don’t get the appeal of lengthy fighting scenes in the beginning of a book when no characterization has taken place yet. I’m a third of the way in and so far it feels like it’s 80-90% fighting. How am I supposed to care who wins if I don’t know the characters involved?

So far, I haven’t enjoyed a single page. What a disappointment.

Yup, it’s another re-read year. The first book is my favorite.

Don’t know how many times I’ve read these but I’m so glad I’m enjoying them as much as ever.
