First thought, I need to stop getting books that are in the middle of long-standing series - but that's what happens when you thrift books based on vibes. So far things are slow moving and I don't care for the author's voice. Hopefully the promised interwoven history pick up & raise the intrigue as we progress into the story.

Not sure I'm going to be able to make it through this one, tbh. I bought this book eons ago, mostly because the author's name is also Nic and the topic of meth addiction from a first person perspective was enticing. Thus far, however, Nic has been a rambling, glorifying, self-centered, and non-chronological mess. We'll see what the coming pages have in store - but based on the tone, I'm not hopeful.

I'm not loving this so far. I really was drawn into the story of To Kill a Mockingbird, but thus far the story is written in almost of stream of consciousness that is hard to follow. The transition of Scout's character and almost overly convenient character deaths / exits from TKaM are leaving the story flat. Hopefully the pace will improve as the conflict becomes more apparent.
