Realized just now I hadn't been counting the early 27 pages numbered differently.

I found myself counting pages. I can recognize it as symptom of impatience to assess how much is left.

I guess I'm not enjoying this book. Doing this solely for Goodreads challenge. Still, I'll try to stick with it unless something else catches my eye.

Some essays flow more easily for a newcomer like me than others. Some end before I feel they really begin.

I am trying. However, I find it difficult to pick up the book after putting it down.

So far, it's hard to like Avery. Not because she's a caricature. But because she's written to behave just like any human would do in such situation. Going through multiple emotions and thoughts when all footing is lost.

For once, I feel I want to read a character who gives up and self-harms from the ordeal. So it's not only mockery. It's not just "princess" barbs. But actually realize the person is hurting.

Almost halfway through. Maybe it's the sneaking around, but I keep waiting for them to be found out.

Stories of dogs (perhaps all pets) have the potential to be healing and to destroy. In 31 pages, both have already happened.

Finally finished the Introduction, which itself was 33 pages but numbered with numerals than digits. Hence, still on page 1.

I'm bored.

The best thing happens when the character's situations resonate in you.
The worst thing happens when they resolve it in a way not feasible OR if it ends up unaddressed.

In the story of the two main couples in focus, there's a lot of both right now.
