At least I have a bunch of prompts for a gratitude journal now. Now that I'm 80% done, I recognize the book isn't resonating for me because I don't feel the situations they describe - or at least, I don't recognize them in me.

The rumination chapter was okay. Nothing has resonated so far.

Started this because of the book club in office. Too early at this point to comment.

And here we go. The third-act separation. Once again. I kinda don't want to bother with them reuniting. Let them both find themselves first.

I think people are trying to push them together. I dislike that, if intentional. If not, author you're being too much into serendipity.

I'm invested in Jordan's story, not Jordon and Jamie's. Not the chapter 1-3 Jordon - that was annoying, but the Jordon that's become visible now. Even if Jamie was needed to kickstart it all

So far, I'm not interested. I'm not hooked. Will try till 30% before making the final call.

The lightning struck in quick succession. But the third-act separation is a false prediction. Poor communication still, but better than that cliché.

Tribulations are brewing on multiple fronts like dark clouds gathering in the sky. I wonder if I can guess the spot where first lightning bolt strikes. Or if it'll be completely unexpected.

I see the Villain prominent in the story.

And you know what? It's okay. Because this has been built up well. They both have been vocal about their situations and it's not blindsiding. It's building up and up as events pass.

It's not always in the face, but it is there. Always.

I have just finished Part V and there are no words for this.

I'm sad to stop in the middle of such an interesting conversation between Rodion and Sonia.

I'm most intrigued to observe how this encounter changes them both by the end of it. I see a resignation in both of them, backs against the wall with no escape in sight.

Though he has killed, I hope he finds peace. I do not judge her (even if I knew not the cause) but I know her society will not let up. I hope for her too.

That was an intense end to a part. Thank you Gemini for it helped me spar with initial reflections without spoilers.

Feels like most of this part was introducing the new characters of the story. Yet, with author's style, I know a lot about them and the plot still moved forward. It's crazy. And crazy good, I suppose.

I have titles for the first two parts in my mind, to summarize the story relevance succinctly. With this third part - which I am two-thirds through - I don't know yet what to expect.

The book confuses me. Does Raskolnikov (mentally, I call him Rascal nikov) feel any guilt about the act? All I read is fear about the entire incident. At times wanting to confess and at times wanting to hide his crime. It is not known.

The long rambling style of prose has been difficult yet informative. I'm getting comfortable with the style. Hopefully that stays the case.

After struggling all this while, I've somehow progressed 3.5 chapters in one sitting. I'm amazed. And super antsy from sitting still.
