I’m so excited about this! It’s not my typical read but it sounds intriguing. ☺️

I’m about three pages in and things are feeling rushed.

Okay, it’s getting better. That was a rough start…

Page one: “the dude yelled at her.”
😐 Is this foreshadowing? The rest of the book will be like “the dude touched her softly.” Or “the hot zombie guy ogled her hungrily.”

And why have I already read like, seven pet references?! “I’ll take you to the car-vet.”
“Mama’s gotta put this guy in the dog house?”

😮‍💨 I’m not gonna make it very far am I?

This reminds me of my first drafts, overusing people’s names, sprinkling in phrases like “the man” or “the woman” to try and lessen my use of “he” or “she.” It’s so hard to lean away from those habits when you first start out. 😆

Not sure I’ll make it far with this read - the urge to edit is too strong! 🤭

Like, three pages in and I'm bored. Also, "eat off this plate like a kitten" right out the gate with absolutely 0 storytelling... 😮‍💨

I'm so obsessed, I've had to FORCE myself to savor this!

It's giving Tanya Bird vibes only, it's more hopeful.

I love the first few lines, they're adorable:

"The ending needed to be altered. The girl spent the whole of the afternoon crossing out lines with her raven feather quill, then adding new, better words to read to the boy in the dark."

I hope the rest of the book holds up! 🤩

Seriously terrible so far. It's like some gross wet dream where someone was overly obsessed with virgins. 😒

Two pages in and it's already showing signs of being poorly written. 😭

This book started off pretty good, but once it hit the half way point it really started to fizzle. 😮‍💨

Oh wow, anyone who said this book isn't that emotional maybe couldn't connect with the characters. Just the prologue of this book is heart-wrenching.

I get that this is a Vela author and the freedom of writing a book in "episodes" changes things up a bit. But the way she sporadically info-dumps is so... weird.

Like, they'll be eating and someone will pick up a piece of fruit and suddenly you're discovering the history of the region the fruit comes from (not really but close enough.)

Part of me loves this world, the other part of me is bored.

A little info-dumpy in the beginning and unimaginative with calling the women of their planet "The Ladies." 🤭 But aside from that, I like it so far. 😁

The opening line of chapter one is idiotic... not sure if I'll make it any further than a few pages of this one. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So far this is terrible. I'm beginning to lose hope.

So far this is slow, boring and predictable. 😬 I'm hoping it will pick up soon. 🤔

I'm 86% done with this book and literally forgot I was even reading it... 🥱 It started off so strong though!

I'm really having trouble getting into this...

I was really enjoying this book, but as it progresses there's less story and more erotica, to the point where it's completely imbalanced. Nothing is happening. The characters are just stuck in this constant cycle of thinking about, dreaming about, or attempting to have sex. 😮‍💨 I went from intrigued to bored and am probably not gonna finish this one. 😔

So far I'm really not into this...
